The Western Wall is a the last remaining outer wall of the Second Temple that was built on the First Temple built by King Solomon (1 Kings 8).

The western side of the temple wall is the closest side to where the Ark of the covenant would be sat in the Holy of Holies, making this place extra special for the Jews as they are not allowed to pray on the Temple Mount.
